7-0 Successfully Defend Bradford Trophy

FC Hudsons (Bradford) 1 v Alloa 7-0 SC 3

After last year’s victory on penalties, Alloa 7-0 SC travelled down to Bradford on Saturday 24th May to defend the trophy. The match was played as a fundraiser for FC Hudsons and although competitive was again played in a friendly and sporting manner.

The pitch was hard and bobbly after a lack of rain in the previous few weeks and both teams found the going hard to begin with. The game settled down and although there were few chances the game went from end to end. Alloa broke the deadlock in 32 mins after a corner was only partially cleared to Alan Milligan who hit an unstoppable 35 yard volley. Minutes later Steven Grieve collected the ball 25 yards out and hit a lot shot into the bottom corner to give Alloa a comfortable 2-0 half time lead.

In the second half Hudsons came back into the game and were rewarded for their play by pulling a goal back. Abercrombie made a good save but the ball wasn’t cleared and Liam Teague combined well with Chris Czternastek to reduce the deficit. This spurred the Wasps on and they extended their lead in 74 mins. Steven Grieve put in an excellent corner which saw Gavin Westwood head home the clinching goal from 7 yards.

The Alloa team were then able to consolidate the victory and retain the trophy. All 16 players contributed to the victory along with the management team of Colin Westwood and Stephen Cowie although special mention goes to Bryan Keye’s performance. This game will provide valuable experience for the Legends game on July 27th
