ALLOA ALBION FUNDRAISING MATCH
NOVEMBER 4TH 2007 -
WEST END PARK ALLOA

ALLOA 7-0 SC OLD SCHOOL 5 (WESTWOOD G, TRIALIST, WESTWOOD C, TRIALIST, TRIALIST)

ALLOA 7-0 SC YOUNG TEAM 3 (ABERCROMBIE 2, BOND)

The old school Alloa squad taught the young pretenders a lesson in this excellent contest, with a top class second half performance. The old team were on the ropes at half time, a goal down and outplayed, but a few tactical changes, coupled with a few questionable substitutions meant they picked up a deserved victory.

The old team set the tone of their tactics early on, by making their first substitution in the 3rd minute, big Pierre off to a standing ovation after giving stunning reserves of energy to the cause.

The young team started off very well, and passed their older opponents to death in the opening period. Only some poor finishing and lack of composure in the final third kept the score at 0-0. The young team defenders Herman and Tesco were mopping up the sparse pressure on their goal, with the only threats being a few runs by Knoxy and some bursts forward by Barry Ferguson.

Polley and Abercrombie were pulling the strings, and it was no surprise when Abercrombie gave the young team the lead. The old team were getting frustrated now, none more so than Barry Ferguson who berated the whole team at the top of his voice on numerous occasions. Ricky Bond missed a couple of chances to double the score.

As the half drew to a close, the old team began to get into the game, with Barry Ferguson shooting just wide, then hitting the post. However young team keeper Roachy had the ball covered on both occasions.

The old boys made a few changes at half time, with Chief coming out of goals, and 3 trialists coming on. The fresher old team looked stronger now, and almost equalised 10 minutes in, when an outrageous dive by Knoxy on the edge of the 18-yard box conned Derek Cadger the referee. Justice was done when Docs free kick sailed over.

The old team had all the pressure, and it came as no surprise when they equalised through Gavin Westwood, who beat substitute keeper Cheesy.

With Chief having a great game in the middle of the park, and the fresh trialists winning the 50 50s, it was no surprise when they took the lead through Trialist. Chief got the goal his performance merited with a drive into Cheesys left hand post to make it 3-1.

Despite McManus, Kennedy, Bryan and a hung over Polley all arguing with each other, the young team still had a bit of fight left in them, and pulled one back through a stunning Abercrombie strike.

However, normal service was resumed, when the old team scored from a corner after a bad mistake from Kennedy. It was no surprise that Trialist converted the chance. They made it 5 just moments later when, you guessed it, Trialist, scored with a fine shot.

They were right on top now, and Christopher Sharp was even giving some penetration for the old boys. The game was petering out now, and Heid made his substitute debut for the young squad. This seemed to spur them on and Ricky Bond scored in the 104th minute (Cadger wasn’t the best at timekeeping), complete with an absolutely ridiculous celebration.

PLAYER RATINGS

 YOUNG TEAM

 Roachy –7
Kept a clean sheet and dealt comfortably with any threats. Jelly would have been proud.

Kennedy - 6
Given a torrid time by Knoxy. Some good distribution in the first half

Tesco- 9
Star man. A rock at the back. Time after time he saved the young team with vital tackles. Didn’t deserve to lose

Bryan-5
Was he a centre half or a centre midfielder? Still cant decide

Herman-7
Failed to clear his lines at times but comfortable throughout

Deek-7
Pacy up the left- some great passing. Excellent product of the 7-0 youth development

Polley -7
Tore the old codgers to bits in the first half, hangover kicked in second half so he just argued with Bryan

McManus- 6
Started well, then argued with Kennedy for the rest of the game

Steven Grieve-6
Good first half, constant threat. Lack of service second half

Ricky-6
Held the line very well, although a few stray shots. Composed consolation goal.

Great Bermuda shorts, this work horses running off the ball was immense

Sub keeper looked like Andy Goram when he came on, unfortunately played like Scott Carson

210 seconds of greatness from this Alloa legend

Solid in the middle, came to life in the second half
